Les Brown is a motivational speaker who has been getting people into the positive zone for over 20 years. I first watched his speeches when they were carried on PBS television in the early to mid 1990’s. At that time I was in my twenties. While I really enjoyed his motivation talks, at that point in my life I really didn’t know what to do with it. To put that to good use, you really need a certain level of maturity. Now, I’m not saying that it isn’t of benefit to anyone who can comprehend the concepts, but as with Tony Robbins’ body of work, to put that knowledge to the kind of use that leads to a better lifestyle, making more money, or things of that nature, you need to have real goals.

At that time I was out of school and I thought I was doing what I needed to do to lay the foundation for a successful life. I was already university educated by my parents’ good graces, and either working or headed for traditional work. What did I know? I didn’t know any better. I didn’t know that just working for others wouldn’t get me anywhere without a professional degree or occupation that really paid the kind of money that you need to really get ahead. I bought into the bullshit that they feed you in this society.

As I said earlier, I have known of Les Brown motivational speaker for over 20 years. I still remember being enthralled watching this charismatic man’s speeches on the public television (PBS) pledge specials in the early to mid 1990’s. Not all of the pieces were together yet in my head. I can say that I carried around many of his anecdotes with me for years. There was one that he used about no one being able to run the 1 minute mile until someone had done it, thus proving that it could be done. That was a powerful one at the time, and I have since heard many people use it. I’m not saying that Les was the first to use that, he probably wasn’t, but he was the first that I heard it from. What is the Les Brown Biography?
Les Brown and his twin brother were born on the floor of an abandoned building in Liberty City (Miami) Florida, a poor area. His biological mother had to give them up since she became pregnant with them when her husband was away in the military. She said that if he found out that her life would be in danger. She gave them to his adopted mother, Mrs. Mamie Brown, and insisted that she never separate them. Mrs. Mamie Brown promised and kept her word. What a good woman she must have been.
When he was in school, Les Brown was labeled as educative mentally retarded and held back a year. Later on, while taking the place of a friend in a class, and being caught, the teacher told him to write the answer to a problem on the board. That teacher scolded him when he repeated that diagnosis while saying that he couldn’t answer a problem on the chalk board. The teacher told him to never let anyone’s opinion of him define his experience, and that changed his life.
Later Les Brown managed to get a job at a radio station as a helper. After being refused work several times, he pestered the station owner into letting him work there by being tenacious and coming back day after day asking if there was work. He would fetch their lunch and drive the DJs’ cars and that sort of menial work. He paid his dues. He watched them in the studio and memorized how they worked the controls and learned how to be a DJ by observation.
One day, one of the DJ’s was drinking and got too drunk to perform. The station owner told him to call the other DJ’s. He said “yes sir” and pretended to call. Later he called back and said he couldn’t find anyone. The boss told him to go and change the records and to not say anything. He called his family and friends and said to turn on their radios because he was going on the air! He went on and did his fast talking and ended up being a local celebrity.
Later on, Les Brown went into politics and was elected to political office. He had his mama do a radio ad saying that he was her boy and that she raised him right and to please vote for him because he was “a good boy”. He won the election.
So those were the days before Les Brown became a celebrated public speaker. Les Brown motivational speaker was formed from these early experiences. He tells these stories in his many speeches and I have watched them so many times that I have memorized them. Mr. Brown is a very charismatic speaker and he really relays his enthusiasm and gets you into the whole positive thinking mantra. My Thoughts on Les Brown Motivational Speaker
I first heard all of these Les Brown quotes when I saw his speeches on PBS in the early 1990’s. At that time I was a twenty something who had been exposed to the network marketing world, which utilizes many positive thinking techniques to keep people motivated, and I was always drawn to better ways of thinking. I had already seen those late night infomercials for the Anthony Robbins courses, bought Anthony Robbins books, and was into much “expanded consciousness” type of readings. I read everything from Napoleon Hill’s Think and Grow Rich, to Anthony Robbins’ books, to the Seth books which channeled a disembodied spirit who liked to comment on the state of expanded human consciousness.
Les Brown and his motivational speaking was a natural fit for someone like me.
The problem that I had with any of these bodies of work was that these gurus could talk until they were blue in the face about success and taking massive action, but unless you were in a sales job or a network marketing gig, (or motivational speaking like they were) good luck making it big using their principles. That being said, that knowledge is very valuable and also was a kind of precursor to the later types of concepts taught in works like The Secret.
With the advent of the internet, all bets are off. Now anyone with the motivation, the time, the desire, drive, and a little bit of operating capital (money) can start a blog, a website, an internet knowledge and marketing business, and reach the entire world without having to be able to afford radio or TV advertising. So, I and many others use this knowledge in the field of internet marketing to reach fellow seekers who also want to find a better way.
